On February 27, Atlanta Braves infielder Nacho Alvarez Jr. left the game in visible pain, but he may be back in action sooner than expected. Injuries were a recurring issue for the Braves throughout the 2024 season, and just a week into Spring Training, they’ve been hit again.
Alvarez had one at-bat in the Braves’ Spring Training game against the Nationals, failing to record a hit before exiting with clear discomfort. The team later announced on X that the third baseman was removed due to soreness in his left wrist.
Alvarez was replaced at third base by José Devers for the rest of the game, which the Braves went on to win 4-3 against the Nationals.
Less than 48 hours later, encouraging news about Alvarez’s condition surfaced. On March 1, MLB.com’s Mark Bowman shared on X that Alvarez’s condition was improving, with the infielder stating he expects to return to play within the next week.
Nacho Alvarez says his wrist is feeling better. He thinks he could play within the next few days.

The 21-year-old infielder, set to turn 22 this year, remains one of the Braves’ top prospects despite a challenging MLB debut in 2024. Alvarez has appeared in three Spring Training games so far, going 0-for-6 with one walk and two strikeouts.
While he’s unlikely to make the Opening Day roster, he continues to develop as a potential future replacement for Orlando Arcia—provided he stays healthy.
