Bill Belichick is preparing for his first season as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels, but he’s already making moves to strengthen the program for future seasons. Like many top college football teams, that means securing high-level recruits.

Belichick has put together an impressive 2026 recruiting class, which currently includes six three-star prospects and ranks No. 20 nationally and No. 4 in the ACC, according to 247Sports. That class could soon improve even further, as On3 reported that Belichick has extended an offer to wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald, the son of former NFL star Larry Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald, a three-star recruit, is ranked as the No. 76 wide receiver and No. 478 overall player in the nation. North Carolina faces stiff competition for his commitment, as he has also received offers from major programs such as Florida State, Arizona, UCLA, Duke, Pittsburgh, and Iowa State.

If Fitzgerald follows in his father’s footsteps, he could have a bright future ahead. Larry Fitzgerald, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, spent 17 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, finishing his career second in NFL history in both receptions (1,432) and receiving yards (17,492), along with 121 touchdowns (sixth all-time). An 11-time Pro Bowler and First-Team All-Pro, he is a surefire future Hall of Famer.

Landing Devin Fitzgerald would be a major win for Belichick and the Tar Heels as they continue building a competitive roster under his leadership.
