The Los Angeles Rams made a key move on Thursday, finalizing a contract extension for a player nearing the end of his rookie deal. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Rams and wide receiver Tutu Atwell agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract. The deal was negotiated by Atwell’s agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.
Last season, the Rams reached the Divisional Round of the playoffs before falling 28-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles. They also claimed their 15th NFC West title, trailing only the San Francisco 49ers (22) in division championships. With this extension, Atwell will return for his fifth season with the team in 2025.
The Rams selected Tutu Atwell in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Louisville, where he recorded 2,307 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns from 2018 to 2020. Since joining Los Angeles, Atwell has been a valuable addition to the team’s receiving corps. He initially served as a kick return specialist in 2021 but was limited to eight games due to a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 8 against the Texans.
Atwell rebounded in 2022, tallying 18 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown. He continued to progress in 2023 with 483 yards and three touchdowns before setting a career high in 2024 with 562 yards on 62 receptions. His rookie contract with the Rams, which ran from 2021 to 2024, was worth $5.9 million, according to Spotrac. His new contract with the team includes a $5 million signing bonus and $10 million in guaranteed money. If he does not extend his deal beyond its current term, Atwell will become an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
