The Colorado Avalanche have acquired forward Charlie Coyle and a 2026 fifth-round draft pick from the Boston Bruins in exchange for forward Casey Mittelstadt, prospect William Zellers, and a conditional 2025 second-round pick.
Coyle, 33, has played 64 games for Boston this season, tallying 15 goals and seven assists for 22 points. His goal total ranks fourth on the Bruins, while his overall points place him eighth on the team. He arrives in Colorado with goals in two of his last four games.
A native of East Weymouth, Massachusetts, Coyle has accumulated 472 points (187G, 285A) over 931 NHL games with the Bruins and Minnesota Wild. He set career highs in goals (25) and points (60) last season and has recorded two 20-goal and two 50-point campaigns in his 13-year career. Currently, he holds the NHL’s eighth-longest active “Iron Man” streak, having played in 310 consecutive games.
In the postseason, Coyle has appeared in 119 Stanley Cup Playoff games, notching 52 points (25G, 27A). After joining Boston at the 2019 Trade Deadline, he set playoff career highs in goals (9) and assists (7) en route to the Bruins’ Stanley Cup Final appearance. He has made the playoffs every season of his NHL career, a 12-year streak second only to Ryan Reaves (13).
Before turning pro, Coyle played for Boston University and later won a QMJHL championship with the Saint John Sea Dogs in 2011-12, earning playoff MVP honors. Internationally, he has represented Team USA, winning bronze at the 2011 World Junior Championship and the 2015 IIHF World Championship.
Originally drafted 28th overall by the San Jose Sharks in 2010, Coyle brings experience and versatility to the Avalanche’s lineup.
As part of the deal, Colorado sends Mittelstadt, who recorded 44 points (15G, 29A) in 81 games with the Avalanche after being acquired at the 2024 Trade Deadline. He also contributed nine points in 11 playoff games last year. Zellers, a third-round pick in 2024, currently plays in the USHL for the Green Bay Gamblers.
