Jeremy Chinn, Las Vegas Raiders, Agree to Contract
After a slow finish to his rookie contract, Jeremy Chinn entered free agency and settled for a one-year “prove-it” deal with the Washington Commanders. The move paid off, as the fifth-year safety thrived in his new surroundings. Chinn started all 17 games in 2024, finishing the season with one interception, five pass breakups, two sacks, 117 tackles, and seven tackles for loss. His contributions were key in Washington’s surprising run to the NFC Championship Game, although their season ended in a lopsided defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Chinn was originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Southern Illinois and made an immediate impact. As a rookie, he started 15 games, recording one interception, five pass deflections, one sack, 117 tackles, and two tackles for loss. Despite Carolina missing the playoffs, Chinn’s strong performance earned him a second-place finish in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
In 2021, Chinn continued to excel in his starting role. He played and started in 16 games, tallying one interception, five passes defended, one sack, 107 tackles, and six tackles for loss. Although the Panthers once again fell short of the postseason, Chinn emerged as a bright spot and appeared to be a core piece for the team’s future.
However, injuries derailed his 2022 campaign, limiting him to 11 games, and his play suffered as a result. The struggles continued into 2023, where he only started eight of the 12 games he appeared in.
Over the course of his rookie contract, Jeremy Chinn totaled three interceptions, 22 passes defended, six sacks, 441 tackles, and 19 tackles for loss.
