On Tuesday night, the 6-foot-8, 335-pound Buchanan announced that he has flipped his commitment from West Virginia to Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels.

Buchanan, considered a consensus three-star recruit, originally signed with West Virginia in December but was released from his letter of intent following the coaching change in Morgantown.

Buchanan ranks No. 1,376 overall, No. 99 among offensive tackles, and No. 40 in the state of Maryland according to the 247Sports 2025 Composite rankings.

After giving his verbal commitment to West Virginia in April of last year, he went on to take official visits to Rutgers and Maryland over the summer. In total, Buchanan received 18 scholarship offers during his recruitment.

By making his commitment to UNC official this week, Buchanan became the 29th member of the Tar Heels’ 2025 class. Despite the turmoil following Mack Brown’s departure in late November, Bill Belichick’s first recruiting class at UNC now ranks No. 41 nationally and No. 9 in the ACC, per 247Sports.
