Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson will begin the season on the 10-day injured list due to an oblique strain.
Stephenson was initially tested for a possible back injury, but further evaluation through an MRI revealed the strain in his oblique.
With Stephenson sidelined, Jose Trevino is set to handle primary catching duties when the Reds open their season on March 27 against the San Francisco Giants.
In 2024, the 28-year-old Stephenson posted a .258 batting average while setting career highs with 19 home runs, 26 doubles, 66 RBIs, and 69 runs scored over 138 games. He and the Reds avoided arbitration during the offseason by agreeing to a one-year, $4.925 million contract.
Tyler Stephenson has compiled a career .267 batting average, along with 50 home runs and 208 RBIs in 470 games since being drafted in the 11th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
