The San Francisco 49ers have endured a difficult offseason so far. After missing the playoffs in 2024, they’ve seen a significant number of key players leave in free agency. At the same time, the team hasn’t made many impactful moves to replace the talent they’ve lost. Departures include wide receiver Deebo Samuel, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, offensive linemen Aaron Banks and Jaylon Moore, running back Elijah Mitchell, quarterback Joshua Dobbs, defensive tackles Javon Hargrave and Maliek Collins, cornerback Charvarius Ward, and safety Talanoa Hufanga.
In terms of additions, the 49ers have signed tight end Luke Farrell, safeties Richie Grant and Jason Pinnock, linebacker Luke Gifford, wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, cornerback Tre Brown, and quarterback Mac Jones. Despite these moves, San Francisco may continue to pursue more talent if the price makes sense.
Cory Woodroof of For The Win predicts that the 49ers could sign free agent defensive end Azeez Ojulari from the New York Giants. “The 49ers need more help on the defensive line, and Ojulari fits the mold of players who go to San Francisco, shine for a while, and eventually earn a big contract elsewhere,” Woodroof explained.
Ojulari would be a solid addition, especially at his projected cost. Spotrac estimates his next deal at two years, $15 million—a reasonable investment. In 2024, Ojulari totaled 28 tackles, six sacks, and one fumble recovery in 11 games for the Giants. At just 24 years old, he still has plenty of upside. Pairing him with Nick Bosa could give the 49ers’ defensive front a boost they badly need.
