The Philadelphia Eagles were without running back AJ Dillon for the entire 2024 season as he recovered from a neck injury. Dillon had joined the Eagles after signing with them from the Green Bay Packers.
Throughout his recovery process, Dillon consulted numerous medical professionals to ensure he was fully cleared to return.
“We met with specialists on the East Coast, West Coast—everywhere. I’ve been given the green light,” Dillon told Eagles.com. “I’m pumped to be here, ready to play, and be part of the dominance that’s been building in Philly.”
Dillon took a cautious approach during his rehab, focusing on his long-term health above all else. Now, having been officially cleared, he’s eager to make an impact.
“When you first get news like that, you want to be careful. You make sure you’re checking every box, going through all the proper evaluations,” Dillon said. “But I’ve been cleared across the board. I feel great—no lingering effects, nothing holding me back. It’s one of those situations you work through, and now I’m back, I’m in Philly, and I’m ready to make the most of it.”
Dillon will now have the chance to share the backfield with star running back Saquon Barkley.
“As far as my role and how I can contribute, it’s all about the way I approach the game and how I play,” Dillon explained. “I’m excited to get out there and take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way. Whatever that looks like—whether it’s how I fit in or what I’m asked to do—as long as I’m where I need to be, doing my job, being accountable, I’m happy. I’m just going to let my play speak for itself.”
Dillon is getting a fresh opportunity in Philadelphia, where he’ll aim to contribute to the Eagles’ pursuit of another Super Bowl title.
How the Eagles are thinking short and long term
Fresh off their second Super Bowl victory in seven years, the Philadelphia Eagles are keeping an eye on both the present and the future. One way they’re doing that is by finding high-value additions in free agency. Dave Spadaro of Eagles.com provided some insight into the team’s approach.
“The bottom line is this: the Eagles didn’t overextend themselves, they didn’t panic, and they didn’t waste money on bad decisions,” Spadaro explained. “They avoided locking themselves into long-term deals. Instead, they’re bringing in quality players who are joining a winning culture and a top-tier coaching staff. Each of these guys understands they’ll have a chance to be their best here.”
The Eagles are focused on winning both now and in the years ahead, and their calculated free agency moves are designed to support that vision.
