Atlanta, GA — The Atlanta Braves are set to bolster their roster with the return of veteran utilityman Jurickson Profar, sources confirmed on Tuesday. After weeks of speculation, Profar is finalizing a deal that will see him don the Braves uniform for the 2025 season, bringing a versatile skill set and veteran leadership to an already stacked lineup.
Profar, 32, spent last season with the San Diego Padres, slashing .242/.322/.380 with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs over 138 games. While his bat cooled in the second half, his defensive versatility and clubhouse presence made him a valuable asset for the Padres’ playoff push. Now, the Curacao native looks to add depth and experience to an Atlanta squad eyeing another deep postseason run.
The Braves, who have dealt with injuries and roster shuffling throughout spring training, view Profar as a key piece in solidifying their outfield rotation. Capable of playing all three outfield spots as well as second base in a pinch, Profar provides manager Brian Snitker with flexibility both in the field and at the plate.
“Jurickson’s a guy who brings energy and professionalism to the ballpark every day,” said Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos in a brief statement. “His ability to play multiple positions and work quality at-bats makes him a great fit for what we’re building.”
The deal is reportedly a one-year contract with performance incentives, although financial terms have not yet been disclosed. Profar’s addition comes on the heels of Atlanta’s efforts to reinforce their bench and create matchup advantages throughout the grueling National League season.
Originally signed by the Texas Rangers as one of baseball’s top international prospects, Profar’s career has seen stops in Oakland, San Diego, and a brief stint in Colorado. Known for his plate discipline and defensive flexibility, he brings over a decade of big-league experience to an Atlanta team already brimming with talent.
Profar is expected to join the Braves later this week in Florida, where the team continues its spring training schedule. His role is anticipated to be that of a super-utility player, with opportunities to earn starts in the corner outfield and spell key starters as the season progresses.
With Profar in the fold, the Braves hope to strengthen their bid for a return to the World Series.
