The Duke Blue Devils are entering the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed in the East Region after an outstanding season, led by standout freshman Cooper Flagg.
Duke wrapped up its year with an ACC Tournament championship, finishing with an impressive 31-3 overall record, including a dominant 19-1 run in conference play.
Flagg was the driving force behind the Blue Devils’ remarkable campaign, helping them claim both the ACC regular-season and tournament titles.
Now, as they head into March Madness, Flagg has been recognized as a consensus First-Team All-American, earning honors from the NABC, Associated Press, Sporting News, and USBWA.
“It’s officially official,” the Duke Blue Devils’ social media account posted in celebration of Flagg’s unanimous selection.
In his freshman year, Flagg has been phenomenal, leading Duke in five major statistical categories. He’s averaging 18.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game.
He’s also viewed as one of the frontrunners for the National Player of the Year award, with Auburn’s Johni Broome among his top competitors.
Duke’s first NCAA Tournament matchup will be against the winner of the play-in game between American and Mount St. Mary’s, who are battling for the No. 16 seed in the Round of 68.
Although Flagg was sidelined late in the ACC Tournament with an ankle sprain, multiple reports suggest he’s on track to play in the NCAA Tournament.
