Russell Wilson is energized and determined to make the most of his move to the New York Giants after being let go by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 36-year-old Super Bowl-winning quarterback had hoped to remain in Pittsburgh following a personally strong season that saw him lead the team to the playoffs. However, the Steelers shifted their focus to acquiring Aaron Rodgers—a gamble considering the 41-year-old has yet to decide whether he will continue playing. Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby even believes Rodgers may retire.

Wilson, however, doesn’t see a major gap between himself and Rodgers when it comes to their abilities on the field.

“Aaron Rodgers is a tremendous football player. He’s accomplished some amazing things in this league,” Wilson said of his counterpart. “I’ve been fortunate to achieve great things as well. But right now, my focus is on what we can accomplish here.”

The Giants have shown their confidence in Russell Wilson by signing him to a $21 million deal, including $10.5 million in guaranteed money.

Despite holding the No. 3 pick in this year’s NFL Draft and being heavily linked to former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the Giants already have a crowded quarterback room. With Wilson backed up by Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito, they may instead shift their focus to drafting a top defensive prospect like Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter.

Aaron Rodgers, 41, appears to be at a crossroads in his career after leaving the Jets

Wilson, however, has no doubts about his role as the Giants’ new leader after spending the past two seasons struggling to find his footing.

“I’m excited, man. I’ve been blessed with so much in this game—experiences, challenges, and incredible moments,” Wilson told NFL.com. “All the great times, some tough ones, too, but being inside those white lines is my favorite place to be. I can’t wait to do that while rocking the New York Giants jersey.”

Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers, 41, remains undecided about his future after leaving the Jets. While he had been linked to the Giants, his most likely landing spot appears to be Pittsburgh, though the Minnesota Vikings have also emerged as a potential destination.

Wilson led the Steelers to a playoff berth last season before they were eliminated by the Baltimore Ravens, but with Pittsburgh moving on, he’s eager for a fresh start in New York.
