JUST IN: Avalanche Hit With Shock Accusations After Taylor Makar Move

The Colorado Avalanche signed 24-year-old forward Taylor Makar on Monday, officially adding Cale Makar’s younger brother to the organization. Taylor agreed to a one-year entry-level contract through the 2025–26 season and will begin his professional career in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles.

A seventh-round pick in 2021, Taylor recently wrapped up his senior year at the University of Maine, where he tallied 30 points (18 goals, 12 assists) in 38 games. His season ended with a 5–1 loss to Penn State in the NCAA tournament, knocking Maine out of the Frozen Four. Meanwhile, his older brother Cale leads all NHL defensemen with 85 points in 75 games and remains a key piece of Colorado’s defense.

However, not all hockey fans were sold on the signing. Many questioned whether Taylor’s addition was influenced by his brother, with social media reactions hinting at nepotism. Once the Avalanche announced the news on X, replies poured in with users repeatedly asking, “Any relation?” and “Is that Cale’s brother?” Some were more direct, calling it “nepotism at its finest!” or sarcastically suggesting Cale had a hand in the deal.

Skepticism over Taylor’s age also surfaced, with some pointing out that at 24, he just met the cutoff for an entry-level contract. Others simply expressed disbelief at the situation, with one fan reacting, “There’s two of them??”
