The transfer portal is buzzing, and one name generating considerable attention is Duncan Powell.
According to 247 Sports’ national basketball recruiting analyst Dushawn London, Powell, a forward from Georgia Tech, recently visited Memphis and has been in touch with the Kentucky Wildcats as well. The 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward has had a winding journey through college basketball.
Powell started his career at North Carolina A&T, where he spent two seasons and averaged 7.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game while playing 21.8 minutes per contest. Seeking a bigger opportunity, he transferred to Sacramento State for his redshirt sophomore year, where he made a significant impact, posting 12.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 26.5 minutes per game.
His standout performance at Sacramento State earned him a chance at a high-major program, leading him to Georgia Tech for his redshirt junior season. At Georgia Tech, Powell played in 33 games with 13 starts, averaging 12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 29.5 minutes per game. After just one season with the Yellow Jackets, Powell is once again exploring his options in the transfer portal.
Since entering the portal, Powell has attracted interest from several programs, including Kentucky, Memphis, Providence, TCU, and Ole Miss. With his ability to score and rebound, Powell is a versatile forward who could significantly boost any team’s frontcourt.
As Powell evaluates his options, expect his decision to be a key storyline in the transfer portal this offseason. His blend of size, experience, and skill could make him a valuable asset for a program looking to add depth and leadership to its roster.
