HUGE BOOST: Auburn Basketball Officially Commits Another Versatile Top-Notch Three-Star

Auburn and head coach Bruce Pearl are coming off an impressive 2024–25 campaign that saw the Tigers reach the Final Four for just the second time in program history—and the first since 2019.

With key players Johni Broome, Dylan Cardwell, and Miles Kelly having graduated, the team faces significant roster turnover. In today’s college basketball landscape, the transfer portal has become essential for quick reloading, and Auburn has already been active.

On Thursday, the Tigers added another piece by landing former Texas Tech guard Kevin Overton. The 6-foot-5 sophomore announced his commitment to Auburn via On3 Sports. A native of Oklahoma City, Overton started his college career at Drake, where he averaged 11.3 points per game before transferring to Texas Tech. With the Red Raiders last season, he averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game and had a standout 20-point performance against Arizona in the Big 12 Tournament semifinals.

Auburn has already made a few other significant moves this week. On Tuesday, the Tigers added former Mississippi State forward KeShawn Murphy, and on Wednesday, they picked up JUCO standout Abdul Bashir.

While the team has been aggressive in the portal, the roster-building process isn’t over. With the transfer portal window closing on Tuesday, April 22, expect Pearl and his staff to continue pursuing impact players to bolster the 2025–26 roster.
