Virginia Tech Hokies

It was a productive weekend for Virginia Tech football as head coach Brent Pry and his staff secured two key additions from the transfer portal. After a period that saw several players exit the program, the Hokies are back on the board with some important reinforcements.

First, North Dakota State defensive tackle Kody Huisman committed to Virginia Tech, marking the program’s first spring addition from the portal. The 6-foot-3, 295-pound interior lineman brings depth and experience to a defensive front that needed bolstering.

Then came another big move — this time in the secondary — as Hawaii cornerback Caleb Brown announced his commitment to the Hokies.

Brown, a 6-foot-1 corner originally from Lithia Springs, Georgia, began his college career at Kennesaw State, spending two seasons there before transferring to Butler Community College. He made his way to Hawaii ahead of the 2023 season and appeared in 23 games over two years, recording 14 pass breakups as a starter.

Virginia Tech has made strengthening its secondary a priority, especially following roster turnover this offseason. Brown joins a competitive cornerback room that already added transfers Joseph Reddish and Isaiah Brown-Murray during the winter portal window. Junior Dante Lovett has one starting spot locked down, but the battle for the other job is wide open, with Brown expected to be in the mix alongside other returnees and three incoming freshmen.

For Brent Pry and the Hokies, this weekend’s additions come at an ideal time — between the close of spring ball and the summer grind. As the roster continues to take shape, adding experienced and productive players like Huisman and Brown should boost depth and competition heading into fall camp.

Welcome to Blacksburg, Caleb and Kody.
