May 2 (UPI) — Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington announced that star outfielder Mike Trout will be placed on the 10-day injured list due to a bone bruise in his surgically-repaired left knee. Washington shared this news after the Angels’ 10-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday in Anaheim, California. Trout sustained the injury during a 9-3 defeat to the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday in Seattle and was not in the lineup for Thursday’s game.
“He has a bone bruise, so we’re putting him on the injured list,” Washington said. “It’s not serious, but he needs rest.”
Trout, who had surgery on the same knee last year, singled in the first inning of the loss. He later hit a 2-1 sinker between first and second base in the third inning, running to first base and reaching with his left foot before being called out. He returned to right field in the next inning but was taken out of the game before his next at-bat.
The 33-year-old Trout has played in 1,212 out of a possible 1,356 games (89.3%) in his first nine full MLB seasons. However, he appeared in only 226 out of 648 games (34.8%) from 2021 to 2024. This season, the three-time MVP and 11-time All-Star is hitting a career-low .179 with nine home runs and 18 RBIs in 29 games. Trout signed a 12-year, \$426.5 million extension with the Angels in 2019, which runs through 2030 and pays him \$37.1 million annually.

The Angels (12-18) are in last place in the American League West, six games behind the division-leading Mariners (18-12). They will face the Tigers, who have the best record in the American League at 20-12, on Friday at 9:38 p.m. EDT in Anaheim.
