GOOD NEWS: The Pirates Land Another Highly Gifted Versatile Star In Blockbuster Deal

GREENVILLE, N.C. — East Carolina University men’s basketball has landed a major addition to its 2025 recruiting class with the commitment of prep forward Vito Perkovic. The 6-foot-8, 215-pound standout from PHH Prep in Phoenix, Arizona, announced his decision on Friday, providing a significant boost to the Pirates’ frontcourt depth and talent heading into next season.

Perkovic, known for his length, mobility, and developing inside-out game, chose ECU after drawing interest from several mid-major programs. His commitment is a strong statement for head coach Michael Schwartz and his staff, who have been aggressive on the recruiting trail as they look to elevate the Pirates’ standing in the American Athletic Conference.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Vito to the Pirate family,” Schwartz said in a statement. “He’s a high-character young man who brings tremendous energy, versatility, and a relentless work ethic to our program. He fits perfectly with the culture we’re building here.”

At PHH Prep, Perkovic earned a reputation as a physical, high-motor forward capable of defending multiple positions and contributing on both ends of the floor. Coaches and scouts have praised his basketball IQ and willingness to do the dirty work — qualities that should make him an immediate contributor in Greenville.

Perkovic joins a promising incoming class that already features 6-foot-10 forward Reid Cason out of Kingston High School (OK), giving ECU a pair of long, athletic bigs to anchor the paint. With player development at the forefront of Schwartz’s vision for the program, both forwards are expected to flourish in a system that emphasizes defensive intensity and team-first play.

With the commitment now official, ECU fans have plenty to look forward to as the team builds toward the 2025–26 season. Perkovic’s arrival could be a key piece in ECU’s efforts to climb the AAC ranks and return to postseason contention.
