HUGE BOOST: ECU Announced Six New Additions To Program

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina head football coach Blake Harrell has announced six new additions to the program: Mason Baggett (Director of Strength and Conditioning), Hannah Hansley (Director of On-Campus Recruiting), AJ Lembo (Director of Scouting), Luke Mullett (General Manager), Ryan Smith (Special Teams Coordinator), and Lance Ware (Director of Player Personnel/Recruiting).

“I’m excited to welcome this outstanding group to Greenville and Pirate Nation,” Harrell said. “Each individual brings a unique background and has already contributed positively to our program—on the field, in the weight room, and in recruiting.”

Mason Baggett – Director of Strength and Conditioning

Baggett was appointed on April 7, 2025, bringing nearly two decades of experience. Most recently at Virginia Tech as associate director, he also served at Maryland (2024), Nevada (2022–23), and Oregon. He spent six years at Maryland (2016–21) and also had prior stints at Illinois and EXOS in Camp Lejeune, working with Marine Special Operations. Baggett returns to ECU, where he previously served from 2008–11. He played football at Virginia Tech under Frank Beamer and holds degrees in nutrition and sport performance. He and his wife Katie have four children.

Hannah Hansley – Director of On-Campus Recruiting

Hansley began her role on March 17, 2025, after working at Maryland since 2023 in recruiting and operations. There, she coordinated events, visits, and handled various logistical duties. A former ECU recruiting intern, Hansley earned her communications degree from ECU in 2023. She is originally from Charlotte, N.C.

AJ Lembo – Director of Scouting

Lembo joined ECU in February 2025 after four years at TCU, where he supported recruiting and player evaluation efforts while earning his business degree. He’s also interned with Telemetry Sports and worked with Championship Analytics and Rice Football.

Luke Mullett – General Manager

Mullett, who started on Feb. 24, 2025, brings more than 10 years of executive experience. He comes from Cincinnati, where he supported the head coach and led projects across operations, NIL, and player development. His previous roles include positions at Louisville, Tennessee, Marshall, and Eastern Michigan. Mullett is a Michigan native and sport management graduate, and he and his wife Abbie have three sons.

Ryan Smith – Special Teams Coordinator

Smith returns to ECU after a stint at Minnesota (2022–25) as a special teams quality control analyst. Before that, he spent four seasons at ECU in similar roles, including special teams analyst and defensive graduate assistant. Smith began his coaching journey at ECU after graduating in 2017.

Lance Ware – Director of Player Personnel/Recruiting

Ware, who joined on March 17, 2025, has almost 30 years of experience in coaching. He spent the past six years at Appalachian State, including a year coaching tight ends. Ware previously had a decorated run as head coach at Shelby High School, winning five state titles in six years. A former long snapper at App State, he was inducted into the Cleveland County Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. He and his wife Catherine have three children.
