Brexton Busch Beats Weather and Bandolero Bandit Competition on Opening Night of Cook Out Summer Shootout
CONCORD, N.C. — Despite looming thunderstorms and intense on-track competition, Brexton Busch emerged victorious in the Bandolero Bandits division on the opening night of the 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The young driver, son of NASCAR champion Kyle Busch, showcased maturity and racecraft beyond his years, navigating a tricky track and a stacked field of drivers to claim his first win of the summer series.
The evening began under threatening skies, with weather delays interrupting the early schedule. Officials worked quickly to adjust the program, ensuring all divisions would have an opportunity to race. As the clouds parted and the lights came on, fans were treated to a dramatic night of grassroots racing, and Brexton Busch wasted no time delivering one of the standout performances.
Driving his familiar No. 18 Bandolero, Busch started strong and stayed patient in the early laps, letting the race settle before making his move. Several cautions slowed the pace, but Busch remained composed, timing his restarts perfectly and capitalizing on every opportunity. With five laps to go, he made a decisive pass for the lead and never looked back.
“It feels awesome to get this win,” Busch said in Victory Lane. “The car was great, and I just tried to stay focused with all the cautions and delays. I’m glad we got the race in with the weather, and I can’t wait to come back next week.”
The Bandolero Bandits division, designed for young racers ages 8 to 11, continues to be a fan favorite at the Summer Shootout, serving as a launching pad for the next generation of motorsports stars. Brexton Busch’s win only adds to the excitement, as many see the young racer following in his father’s successful footsteps.
While the weather threatened to dampen the evening, the resilience of the drivers and track crew ensured the show went on. The win marks an early highlight in what promises to be a competitive summer for Busch and his peers.
The Cook Out Summer Shootout continues every Tuesday night through August at Charlotte Motor Speedway, featuring Bandolero and Legend Car racing, family-friendly entertainment, and a glimpse at the sport’s future stars.
