Fans of Imagine Dragons are expressing concern and confusion following a puzzling social media post by the band, which came shortly after longtime drummer Daniel Platzman announced his departure.
Platzman, who joined the Grammy-winning rock band in 2011, revealed in August 2024 that he would be leaving Imagine Dragons to pursue his passion for film scoring and composing. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he thanked fans for their support over the years and reflected on the incredible journey he shared with the band.
“After an incredible journey of over a decade, I will be departing the amazing band that is Imagine Dragons,” Platzman wrote. “I’m deeply grateful for the memories, music, and love. I look forward to sharing new creative projects with you all soon.”
His announcement was met with support from fans and fellow bandmates, including bassist Ben McKee, who commented, “Love you Platz! Looking forward to making more Cat Boiz music in the future.”
However, just hours later, Imagine Dragons posted a set of photos from a recent live show in Indianapolis—featuring frontman Dan Reynolds sitting behind the drum kit. The post made no mention of Platzman’s exit, nor did it acknowledge his contributions to the band over the years. This seemingly tone-deaf move left many fans frustrated and concerned about the band’s direction and transparency.
“Platzman just left and this is what you post?” one fan commented. “No statement, no goodbye. Just Dan on drums like nothing happened. Crazy.”
Another added, “We don’t know what happened between Platz and you guys, but not making any official announcement and posting a picture of Dan on drums doesn’t seem right…”
While Platzman has updated his Instagram bio to reflect his departure—now reading “formerly @imaginedragons”—the band has yet to issue any formal statement on the matter.
