Regional Goods TJ Sheffield is attempting to maximize his Titans opportunity.

NASHVILLE – TJ Sheffield was not selected in the NFL Draft, and he was also not selected when undrafted free agents started looking for a place to settle just after the NFL Draft ended. The Tennessee Titans, his local team, would give him an opportunity to try out during rookie minicamp. “For the tryout, I just wanted to try and take advantage of my opportunity,” Sheffield, a senior at Independence High School in Thompson’s Station and a finalist for the Tennessee Titans’ Mr. Football, said. “I made an effort to have a flawless camp with no balls dropped. Come on out and keep yourself clean.

Sheffield accomplished exactly that, and following the organization’s rookie minicamp, when he faced off against draft picks and other undrafted free agents, the 5-foot-10, 188-pound receiver was signed by the team. After that, Sheffield caught passes from quarterback Cam Ward and other players during the team’s three-day minicamp and all of the OTAs. When training camp starts in July, he will try to prove himself.

Sheffield, whose family resides in Spring Hill, said, “It’s a dream come true.” “I feel like all the hard work, all the people who have been with me throughout my high school career, my college career, my parents, I get to show them what I can do at the top level.” Sheffield, who grew up just outside of Nashville, claimed to have been a huge Titans fan as a child. He attended a few games and like the squad and the atmosphere in the fans.

I used to play running back, so I was a huge fan of Chris Johnson,” Sheffield remarked. “I used to love watching the Titans and C.J., for sure.” Sheffield started his collegiate career at Purdue, where he played in 46 games throughout five seasons (2019–23). He participated in all 13 of the Huskies’ games after transferring to the University of Connecticut for his senior season. With 172 receptions, Sheffield amassed 1,714 yards and 14 touchdowns. He had the most punt returns of any FBS player in his final season, with 34.

He dreamed of playing in the NFL sometime along the way. He has his chance now. “Me and my brother, we always said we were going to try and make it to the league, and now that I am here, I definitely want to stay,” Sheffield stated. “I am working to make this team and see what happens.” I’ve been welcomed by everyone. Although there is fierce competition and everyone is vying for slots, it feels more like a close-knit fraternity and family. I’m simply trying to seize every chance I get, and I’ll play any position they ask me to, including special teams, gunner, kick returner, punt returner, and anywhere else they want me to.
