“Time’s Up?” Packers Star’s Future in Doubt Following Major Report

Romeo Doubs’ Future With Packers in Doubt Amid Trade Buzz

The Green Bay Packers understand that their passing attack must be able to match the league’s best if they want to contend for a Super Bowl in 2025. That’s why the team bolstered its offense by adding Mecole Hardman in free agency and drafting Matthew Golden and Savion Williams.

However, not everyone’s role is secure — and one of Jordan Love’s key targets might soon find himself on the way out.

According to reports, wide receiver Romeo Doubs is the subject of serious trade rumors, and this time, a move may actually be close. With the Packers crowded at wide receiver — especially after investing in Golden (1st round) and Williams (3rd round) — the team appears ready to consider parting ways with Doubs before training camp kicks off on July 23.

The Los Angeles Chargers are believed to be leading the charge for Doubs, largely due to the unexpected retirement of veteran wideout Mike Williams. While Ladd McConkey and rookie Tre Harris offer promise, L.A.’s depth chart remains shaky, with Quentin Johnston and Jalen Reagor offering little stability. Head coach Jim Harbaugh may be looking for more proven production — and Doubs could fit that need.

Though a reunion with longtime Charger Keenan Allen seems logical, Doubs represents a younger, more dynamic option. As he enters the final year of his rookie contract, Green Bay may see an opportunity to extract real value from a team in urgent need of help.

The Jets’ recent $130 million extension for Garrett Wilson also complicates the Packers’ situation. While Doubs isn’t in Wilson’s class, his own modest success — 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns over three seasons — could lead him to seek a deal in the $18–20 million per year range. For a team already heavily invested in Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and now two more rookie receivers, that kind of extension just doesn’t make financial sense.

At this point, Doubs is likely more valuable to Green Bay as a trade asset than as a long-term part of the offense. The Packers have surrounded Jordan Love with enough weapons to keep the offense clicking, and with the Chargers appearing desperate, now might be the perfect time for GM Brian Gutekunst to make a move.

The writing is on the wall: with training camp approaching and roster cuts looming, the Packers may soon be saying goodbye to Romeo Doubs.
