There was a poll asking fans to select the main reason the Braves would not make it to the (unnecessarily lengthy, bloated) postseason in 2024. As predicted, injuries garnered the most votes in this category.
This isn’t particularly surprising — the more unexpected part is that only 65 percent of the vote went to “injuries.” After all, if you compare the lost WAR due to injuries with the lost WAR from underperformance, and factor in the impact of managerial decisions, injuries clearly dominate. The Braves entered the season with the top-projected position player and pitcher, but one was lost after just two starts and the other didn’t last two months. The choice here was obvious.
Regardless, the Braves will aim to make all of this irrelevant by securing a playoff spot in their final five games.
