In a surprising move just days before training camp, the New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves completed a blockbuster trade, sending Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns. While there were rumors that the Knicks might move on from Randle, DiVincenzo’s inclusion was unexpected, especially after his career-best season. According to Mat Issa of SportsCasting.com, an anonymous source revealed that DiVincenzo “was really unhappy” in New York and wasn’t enthusiastic about the “Nova Knicks” connection.
“Donte [DiVincenzo] was really unhappy, and [the Knicks] thought it could be a problem. They also believe Landry Shamet can provide some quality bench guard minutes,” an anonymous source told SportsCasting.

The Knicks recently signed Shamet to a training camp contract, but it appears he could play a significant role for the team in the upcoming season. In addition to his on-court contributions, Shamet will also provide valuable veteran presence for the Knicks.

During his one season in New York, Donte DiVincenzo averaged 15.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 44.3% from the field. The 2021 NBA champion still has three years left on his four-year, $46.9 million contract. For the Timberwolves, DiVincenzo is expected to play a backup role but should contribute immediately and over the long term, given his contract status.
