The New York Knicks made another roster move on the same day they finalized the Karl-Anthony Towns trade, signing veteran forward TJ Warren to an Exhibit 10 non-guaranteed contract, according to SNY’s Ian Begley.
Warren, 31, could earn a spot on the Knicks’ active roster, especially with the team’s limited wing depth after trading Donte DiVincenzo as part of the Towns deal. At 6’8″ and 220 pounds, Warren would provide the bench with much-needed size and versatility, as Precious Achiuwa is currently the only bench player taller than 6’5″.
Though Warren is unlikely to see significant playing time behind OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges if he makes the roster, he remains a valuable depth option as the regular season approaches in three weeks.
Warren has a good track record of being a solid scorer
TJ Warren, a 10-year NBA veteran, has spent the majority of his career with the Phoenix Suns, while also playing for the Indiana Pacers, Brooklyn Nets, and Minnesota Timberwolves. However, injuries have significantly impacted him in recent seasons, limiting him to just 57 games since the 2020-21 season.
Warren has career averages of 14.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and a 50.5% field goal percentage. During his prime from 2017 to 2020, he posted an impressive 19.1 points per game, including two seasons where he shot over 40% from beyond the arc. If he can regain that form and have a strong showing in training camp, he could be a valuable addition to a Knicks team with high expectations for the 2024 season.
Though the deal is non-guaranteed, Warren has an opportunity to contribute, especially given the Knicks’ need for wing depth following the Karl-Anthony Towns trade. If he stays healthy, his scoring ability and experience could provide a boost off the bench.
