Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stirred controversy after threatening to have two Dallas-area radio hosts fired during a tense interview following the team’s 3-3 start. The incident occurred during a Tuesday morning segment on 105.3 The Fan’s “Shan and RJ,” where Jones was questioned about his offseason decisions, including not signing key free agents and failing to address roster gaps after losing stars like running back Tony Pollard, offensive tackle Tyron Smith, and others. Instead of taking responsibility, Jones became defensive, increasingly hostile, and threatened the hosts’ jobs, which did not sit well with either.
Shan Shariff expressed his frustration, saying, “It’s really insulting, really demeaning… we’ve done 14 years of interviews with this man.” Co-host RJ Choppy echoed the sentiment, adding, “I didn’t get upset, but it was like, ‘You know what? Screw you man.’” Shariff also clarified that while their show airs on the Cowboys’ flagship station, their salaries come from Audacy, not Jones, despite his claim that he was paying them.
Jones later explained his reaction, telling The Athletic that he was upset because he believed the questioning came from people on his payroll, which influenced his anger. “If I’m going to be grilled, I don’t need it to be by the guys I’m paying,” he said, suggesting he would have responded differently if the questions came from fans or knowledgeable football people.
