SHOCK!!! Phillies star fires agent Scott Boras Over…

Add Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos to the growing list of athletes parting ways with super agent Scott Boras. According to his wife, Jess Castellanos, Nick has officially severed ties with Boras, despite not being a free agent until 2027. For now, it appears that Castellanos will represent himself, though the reasons behind this decision remain unclear.

The news was shared by Jess on Tuesday in response to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by “Phillies Tailgate” that listed Phillies players represented by Boras, including Castellanos, Bryce Harper, Bryson Stott, and Alec Bohm. Jess quickly corrected the post, stating “*not nick.” The update was further amplified by Foul Territory.

In the 2024 season, the 32-year-old outfielder posted a .254/.311/.431 slash line with 23 home runs and 86 RBIs. He also had a strong showing in the NL Championship Series, going 7-for-17 with a home run, double, and three RBIs, although the Phillies ultimately lost to the Mets—a team Castellanos felt wasn’t “better” than them.

Castellanos’ split with Boras comes after an offseason where Boras faced criticism for mishandling negotiations for several high-profile clients. Players like Jordan Montgomery, Blake Snell, Matt Chapman, and Cody Bellinger were expected to land significant multi-year contracts but ended up signing shorter-term deals, some with opt-out clauses, after remaining unsigned deep into the offseason.

Montgomery, the most outspoken of Boras’ former clients, fired him and switched to Joel Wolfe and Nick Chanock of Wasserman. He blamed Boras for mishandling negotiations, which led him to sign a two-year, $47.5 million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks that included a vesting option. Montgomery expressed frustration over the situation, saying Boras “kind of butchered it.”

While Snell has expressed different feelings about Boras and remains more supportive, Chapman secured a six-year, $151 million extension with the San Francisco Giants, which included two player option years. Snell acknowledged the struggles of his fellow clients but emphasized that players ultimately make their own choices in the end.
