JUST IN: Knicks Reportedly Targeting Career 41% Three-Point Shooter Star

The New York Knicks have been quite active this offseason, making significant moves by acquiring Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns. However, with only 12 players currently on standard contracts, the team is still looking to finalize its roster. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, one player on the Knicks’ radar is sharpshooter Matt Ryan, a four-year journeyman who last played for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Charania noted that the Knicks are “seriously interested” in signing Ryan, who has built a reputation as a reliable three-point shooter. Ryan, a 6-foot-7 swingman, shot an impressive 45% from beyond the arc during his stint with the Pelicans in the 2023-24 season. In 28 appearances (one start), he averaged 5.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 13.9 minutes per game, making him a potential valuable addition as a floor-spacing option.

The Knicks’ interest in Ryan makes sense, especially after waiving Landry Shamet, who is recovering from a dislocated shoulder. Ryan’s career 41.1% three-point shooting could provide the team with additional depth and shooting prowess, complementing their new acquisitions and giving the Knicks more offensive flexibility as they prepare for the upcoming season.

New York Knicks suffer humiliating opening loss against the Boston Celtics

The New York Knicks’ 2024-25 NBA season got off to a rough start with a decisive 132-109 loss to the defending champions, the Boston Celtics. Despite six Knicks players scoring in double digits, including Jalen Brunson and Miles McBride, who both contributed 22 points, New York struggled to contain Boston’s relentless three-point shooting. The Celtics made an impressive 29 three-pointers, which led Knicks’ forward Josh Hart to humorously suggest that Boston’s shooting performance was so extraordinary that they should “get drug tested.”

This lopsided result highlights New York’s defensive issues, especially on the perimeter, as they were unable to counter Boston’s high-volume and efficient shooting from beyond the arc. Despite some strong individual efforts, the Knicks will need to improve their defense and three-point shooting if they hope to bounce back in their next games.
