TRADE ALERT: Raiders trade pitch could land 46-touchdown star quarterback

The Las Vegas Raiders currently lack a long-term quarterback solution on their roster, and with limited options at the Nov. 5 trade deadline, any meaningful move is likely deferred until later. One potential future trade involves Gardner Minshew, who is under contract through 2025 on a two-year, $25 million deal. However, Las Vegas could part ways with Minshew this offseason, incurring a $10.8 million dead cap hit, according to Spotrac.

A more promising solution may come in the 2025 NFL Draft, although the Raiders might need to trade up to secure their ideal quarterback. As of Week 10, the team holds the No. 6 pick, positioning them well to make a move if necessary.

The Raiders, currently set to pick behind quarterback-needy teams like the Saints, Panthers, and Browns, may face stiff competition in the 2025 draft. Rumors have linked Las Vegas to Colorado’s star quarterback Shedeur Sanders, with Athlon Sports’ Chris Licata suggesting that the Raiders might need to trade up to secure him. Teams such as the Patriots and Jaguars, who are already set at quarterback, could be willing trade partners to move down.

Licata also noted that “Sanders-to-Vegas may be the most likely” of hypothetical moves, especially given that Raiders owner Mark Davis showed interest in Sanders during a WNBA game in October. If Las Vegas wins a few more games, they may need to trade up to land Sanders, who is expected to be among the top quarterbacks in the draft. Deion Sanders has also indicated they’ll be particular about Shedeur’s NFL destination. At Jackson State, Sanders had an impressive 2022 season, with 46 total touchdowns (40 passing, 6 rushing) and a career-high 3,732 passing yards.
