Josh Allen Sends Another Unexpected Message to Sean McDermott

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott, known for relying on his defense to secure late-game stops, took a different approach on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. This time, he placed his faith in the offense — and quarterback Josh Allen made sure it was the right call.

With just over two minutes left in the fourth quarter, McDermott chose to go for it on 4th-and-2 deep in Chiefs territory instead of settling for a field goal to extend the lead to five points. Allen rewarded the gamble with a 26-yard touchdown run, slicing through the Kansas City defense to secure a 30-21 victory.

After the game, Allen expressed gratitude for McDermott’s confidence.

“I appreciated coach for trusting us,” Allen said.

Josh Allen Feared Patrick Mahomes

After the game, Josh Allen admitted he was concerned about the idea of kicking a field goal and giving the ball back to the Chiefs with a chance to win. He acknowledged Patrick Mahomes’ knack for thriving in high-pressure moments and pointed out the Chiefs had just scored a touchdown on their previous drive.

“Any time you give the ball back to Pat (Mahomes) and that offense, down six with the game on the line, I like their odds in that situation,” Allen said. “So we wanted six or seven points to make it a two-score game.”

Allen’s late 26-yard touchdown run gave the Bills a nine-point lead, and the defense handled the rest, intercepting Mahomes on the Chiefs’ final drive to seal the 30-21 victory.

Allen finished the game completing 27 of 40 passes for 262 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. He added 55 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Although the Chiefs’ defense largely contained Buffalo’s ground game, running back James Cook made a notable impact, scoring two touchdowns.

Patrick Mahomes Speaks Out After First Loss of the Season

The Bills’ victory improved their record to 9-2 and handed the Chiefs their first loss of the season. Despite the loss, Kansas City remains a half-game ahead at 9-1, but the win gave Buffalo renewed hope of securing the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

After the game, Patrick Mahomes acknowledged the strength of the Bills and took the loss in stride.

“That’s a good football team. There’s nothing to hang your head about losing to them,” Mahomes said. “We know we can play better. We’ll get back to work and use this as a spark to become a better team by the end of the season.”

Mahomes also dismissed concerns about the loss ending their chance at a perfect season, emphasizing that the Chiefs’ focus remains on their ultimate goal.

“The undefeated thing was cool, but it’s not our ultimate goal. We’re building toward a Super Bowl three-peat,” he added.

With the win, the Bills strengthened their position in the AFC East, moving four-and-a-half games ahead of the Miami Dolphins. Heading into their bye week at 9-2, Buffalo has its best record through 11 games since the 1992 season, which culminated in a Super Bowl appearance.
