The Texas Rangers have announced the purchase of the contracts of pitchers Emiliano Teodo and Winston Santos, as well as infielder Maximo Acosta. Additionally, 2023 Rule 5 selection Carson Coleman has been returned to the New York Yankees, from whom he was drafted, after presumably clearing waivers. Following these moves, the Rangers’ 40-man roster now stands at 39.
Today marked the deadline to add players to the 40-man roster ahead of the Rule 5 Draft, scheduled for December 11. In a previous rundown on potential additions, it was predicted that Teodo, Santos, Acosta, and left-handed pitcher Bryan Magdaleno would be added. Teodo and Santos were considered locks, while Acosta, Magdaleno, Josh Stephan, and others also had strong cases for inclusion.
As for Coleman, the right-handed reliever was selected from the Yankees in the Rule 5 Draft last year while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He was expected to return by mid-2024, but setbacks in his recovery led to him missing all of 2024 and possibly part, if not all, of 2025. Given the likelihood of the Rangers needing to keep him on the active roster during his recovery, it was expected that Coleman would be dropped from the 40-man roster and offered back to the Yankees.
