Offensive lineman Tyre Phillips is making his third return to the New York Giants. After suffering a torn quad during a Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Rams last season, Phillips has recently been cleared to return to full health and is now looking for a team.
Phillips is set to sign with the Giants’ practice squad after working out with the team on Tuesday. The 6-foot-5, 330-pound offensive lineman is versatile, able to play any position on the line except center.
A third-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2020, Phillips was released by Baltimore before the 2022 regular season and signed by the Giants. He played 12 games for the Giants that season, starting five at right tackle in place of the injured Evan Neal.
After being cut by the Giants at the start of the 2023 season, Phillips joined the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad, but the Giants brought him back midseason. He went on to play in 10 games, making nine starts, again filling in for Neal when he was injured.
Now that Phillips is fully healthy, he’s returning to the Giants, bringing added depth and flexibility to their offensive line.
Other moves
The New York Giants made several moves to their practice squad, adding quarterback Tim Boyle and releasing three players.
Boyle, a 28-year-old quarterback, has played in 22 games with five starts since entering the NFL in 2019. He has had stints with five teams, including playing two games this season for the Miami Dolphins.
The Giants also released three players from their practice squad: linebacker Curtis Bolton, offensive tackle Garret Greenfield, and tight end/fullback Jakob Johnson. These moves come as the team continues to adjust their roster.
