The Buffalo Bills are entering their bye week with strong momentum following a significant victory over the Kansas City Chiefs and may have received more positive news regarding quarterback Josh Allen’s health.
During the 30-21 win on November 14, Allen had his throwing hand examined by the team’s medical staff after a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Curtis Samuel, drawing attention from CBS commentators. Despite returning to the game and sealing the win with a 26-yard touchdown run, concerns lingered about a potential lasting injury.
However, head coach Sean McDermott eased those worries, confirming that post-game evaluations revealed no serious issues.
Josh Allen Healthy, Resting Over the Bye Week
Head coach Sean McDermott assured reporters there’s no cause for concern after head trainer Nate Breske evaluated Josh Allen’s throwing hand.
“I think we’re going to get him a new [hand] over the bye week here,” McDermott joked, as reported by the Democrat & Chronicle. “No, as far as I know, I have not heard any concern about it from Nate, our trainer, so hopefully it remains that way. That’s all I know right now.”
Allen now has two weeks to rest after leading the Bills to a 30-21 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, improving their record to 9-2. While no new issues arose from the game, Allen has dealt with injuries this season, including an earlier left-hand injury that required a protective glove. Known for playing through physical setbacks, Allen also had to adjust his throwing motion last year due to an early-season shoulder injury. To address inefficiencies, he worked with a sports science team during the offseason.
The bye week could also help linebacker Matt Milano, who has been sidelined by injuries throughout the year. After fracturing his leg in 2023 and later suffering a torn pectoral in training camp, Milano was recently taken off injured reserve and returned to practice. His potential return for the Bills’ next game against the San Francisco 49ers would provide a major boost to their defense.
Josh Allen Jumps Into Lead in MVP Race
Josh Allen has been a key factor in guiding the Bills to their best start in over 30 years, earning him recognition as a top MVP contender. ESPN’s Brooke Pryor ranked Allen as a favorite for the award, just behind Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Pryor noted that Allen “made his most convincing case yet” during the Bills’ win over the Chiefs, highlighting his game-clinching touchdown run as a significant boost to his MVP chances.
“What’s perhaps most impressive about Allen’s MVP campaign is his success without a clear ‘Robin’ to his Batman,” Pryor wrote. “Following the Stefon Diggs trade, the Bills have leaned on a collective effort rather than a star receiver. Even so, Allen has thrived, distributing the ball effectively—eleven different Bills players have caught touchdown passes from him this season.”
