Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry is seeing momentum in the transfer portal after a slow start. The portal opened on Dec. 9, and while several Hokies players have entered and committed elsewhere, Virginia Tech’s commitments took a bit longer to materialize. The first came Wednesday night when Clemson safety Sherrod Covil Jr. decided to return home to Virginia for his final year of eligibility. Then, on Friday, things picked up quickly after Bowling Green running back Terion Stewart committed earlier in the day, leading to a flurry of additional commitments.
Virginia Tech gets three transfer portal commitments on Friday
After Terion Stewart committed, Brent Pry secured two more commitments, addressing key needs for the Hokies’ 2025 roster. Defensive tackle Jahzari Priester from Hampton committed Friday afternoon, followed by running back Marcellous Hawkins from Central Missouri.
Priester, a 6-foot-6, 294-pound lineman, has three years of eligibility left. Though he’s a work in progress, having started football only in his senior year of high school, he played in 11 games for Hampton this season, including one start and 168 snaps. He will add depth to the defensive tackle position.
Hawkins, who played in three games for Central Missouri this season, had a standout 2023 campaign, rushing for over 1,000 yards on 157 carries and scoring 18 touchdowns. He averaged 6.7 yards per carry, bringing valuable experience to the Hokies’ running back room for 2025 alongside Stewart.
