The San Diego Wave have re-signed backup goalkeeper Hillary Beall to a one-year contract, strengthening their depth at a crucial position in soccer.
Beall, who was acquired from Racing Louisville in January, played in five matches and started two during the 2024 season. She recorded a shutout in the Wave’s Concacaf W Champions Cup victory over Vancouver in October.
Wave Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton praised Beall as “a reliable and hard-working professional” who provides valuable depth and stability to the goalkeeper position.
Beall is expected to continue serving as a backup to Kailen Sheridan, one of the National Women’s Soccer League’s top goalkeepers and a member of Canada’s Olympic and World Cup teams. Sheridan is under contract until 2026.
A 25-year-old Long Beach native, Beall played at Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine and the University of Michigan. She spent the 2023 season on loan to Western United in Australia’s A-League, where she helped the team reach the grand final.
Beall’s re-signing adds a touch of stability to a club still searching for a new head coach after a challenging 2024 season. The Wave went through three different coaches—Casey Stoney, Paul Buckle, and Landon Donovan—finishing with a 6-13-7 record and missing the playoffs. The team also saw star Alex Morgan retire, while trading Abby Dahlkemper and agreeing to release Sofia Jakobsson.
Ashton is entering her first full season as the Wave’s general manager after a tenure with the KC Current, and the club has new ownership after being sold to the Levine Leichtman family in October.
