BREAKING NEWS: The Hokies Officially Lands Ron Crook Replacement

The wait is nearly over, as the Virginia Tech football team is just one day away from facing Minnesota in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte. As kickoff approaches, head coach Brent Pry shared some exciting news that is sure to delight Hokies fans.

Bud Foster will be part of the program going forward

When Brent Pry made the decision to part ways with three coaches last month, one of them was defensive coordinator Chris Marve. For the upcoming bowl game, Shawn Quinn will step in to handle defensive responsibilities, with guidance from former Hokies coach Bud Foster. Foster has been advising Quinn and Pry in preparation and appears poised to take on a more active, though limited, role with the program moving forward.

While Foster won’t be returning as the defensive coordinator, Pry revealed Thursday that the legendary coach will be involved with the team for a set number of days. This development has sparked curiosity about Foster’s role—whether it will primarily be advisory or evolve into something more substantial. It’s certainly a storyline to keep an eye on.

Pry has already started addressing the coaching vacancies by hiring Matt Moore, West Virginia’s offensive line coach, to replace Ron Crook. Moore’s impact is already being felt, as two former players from Morgantown have committed to Virginia Tech via the transfer portal.

As for the defensive coordinator search, Pry noted that progress is being made, but the process has been slowed due to many candidates being occupied with bowl games, including Tech’s own. Even so, an announcement seems imminent.

While it’s no surprise that Foster isn’t returning as DC, it’s likely he’ll have a behind-the-scenes influence on the decision. His presence is a valuable asset for Pry as he faces what feels like a pivotal 2025 season, and ensuring Foster remains connected to the program is a smart move for the Hokies.
