BREAKING NEWS: Virginia Tech Makes Groundbreaking Anouncement Over…

For the first time in 2025, the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team will play a home game. The Hokies are coming off an 88-65 road loss to Duke just four days after returning from the Christmas break—a game where the final score didn’t fully reflect the effort they displayed. Now, they’ll take the court in Blacksburg and face a familiar opponent, hosting a former player from their 2023-24 roster for the second time this season.

In December, Vanderbilt visited as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge, bringing back former Hokies MJ Collins and Tyler Nickel. Collins played a pivotal role in the Commodores’ victory. This Saturday, Miami will come to Blacksburg, marking the return of another former Hokie, Lynn Kidd. However, the Hurricanes arrive without their head coach, Jim Larranaga, who unexpectedly stepped down the day after Christmas.

How to Watch Miami at Virginia Tech men’s basketball

Saturday’s matchup between Virginia Tech and Miami will mark the third ACC game for both teams, with each still searching for their first conference win. One team will finally break through.

Game Details:

  • Date: Saturday, Jan. 3
  • Time: 2:00 p.m.
  • Venue: Cassell Coliseum, Blacksburg, VA
  • Virginia Tech Record: 5-8 (0-2 ACC)
  • Miami Record: 4-9 (0-2 ACC)

For Virginia Tech, this may represent one of their better opportunities to secure an ACC victory this season. Miami is reeling from significant changes after head coach Jim Larranaga’s abrupt departure, while the Hokies have shown fight in their first two conference games against Pittsburgh and Duke, albeit without a win. Success for the Hokies will hinge on taking care of the ball and shooting efficiently.

Miami’s game plan will likely lean on former Hokie Lynn Kidd, who had a strong performance against Boston College on New Year’s Day despite the team’s loss. The Hurricanes also feature talented guard Matthew Cleveland, a key player from last season who remains a scoring threat.

Both teams face mounting pressure to reverse their early ACC struggles, making this a pivotal contest for gaining momentum in conference play.
