Bruce Pearl’s Auburn basketball team maintained control for nearly the entire game against Georgia, securing a 70-68 victory in Athens. Despite a late-game opportunity for the Bulldogs to force overtime with just 0.3 seconds left—following some controversial officiating—they fell short.
Georgia’s head coach, Mike White, and his team showed resilience throughout the game. Pearl praised White in his postgame comments.
“My hat is off to Mike White and his coaching staff,” Pearl said, as reported by DawgNation. “They’ve transformed the culture of this program. They’ve recruited some great players—players we also pursued—and have made tremendous progress.
“Special players step up in crucial moments. When you’re playing a strong team like Georgia, every matchup becomes a challenge, and your top players must deliver. Georgia has the potential to beat nearly every team that comes through here, and they might beat them all. They’ve built a deep, talented, and well-rounded roster.
“Defensively, Georgia is outstanding. They’re big, strong, mobile, and cohesive. This win feels good, and we’re heading home feeling positive.”
The Tigers improved to 2-0 since Johni Broome’s injury during their narrow 66-63 win over South Carolina. Auburn will host Tennessee next Saturday, after the Volunteers were stunned by Vanderbilt in a 76-75 upset. Meanwhile, Auburn further cemented its position as the top team in the Peach State.
