HUGE BOOST: Rangers Land Another Superstar To A Five-Year Deal

The New York Rangers have secured Another defenseman with a five-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $4.1 million against the salary cap. Borgen joined the Rangers following a trade with the Seattle Kraken, which saw Kaapo Kakko head to the Pacific Northwest. Since his arrival, he has formed a strong partnership with K’Andre Miller, and the team plans to keep this pairing intact for the foreseeable future.

In his 17 games with the Rangers, Borgen has recorded one goal and two assists, but his value extends beyond offensive production. Known for his defensive reliability and physical style of play, Borgen has brought much-needed stability to the Rangers’ blue line. While he may not contend for the Norris Trophy like Adam Fox, Borgen’s quiet, dependable performance makes him a vital piece of New York’s long-term plans.

The five-year extension also removes Borgen from the trade market as a potential rental option ahead of the deadline.

Originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, Borgen was selected by the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft. After four seasons in Seattle, the Rangers acquired him to bolster their defense. At 6’3” and 205 pounds, Borgen fits the physical and defensive profile the Rangers have been seeking.

With ongoing concerns about defensive struggles and declining production from players like Ryan Lindgren, Borgen is expected to play a key role in addressing the team’s issues on the blue line. His addition provides hope for the Rangers to regain their form as a solid contender, and his long-term commitment signals that he is a foundational piece of their defensive strategy moving forward.
