The Cincinnati Reds wrapped up their fourth consecutive season without a playoff appearance, finishing with a 77-85 record and placing fourth in the National League Central.
Despite recent struggles, the Reds boast a promising young core of players, offering hope for a brighter future. Among these rising stars is 23-year-old shortstop Elly De La Cruz, an electrifying five-tool talent.
On Monday, De La Cruz took to social media to share some exciting news:
“I’m excited to be on the cover of MLB The Show 25,” he announced through B/R Walk-Off on ‘X.’
This marks De La Cruz’s debut as the featured cover athlete for the popular video game series, joining a star-studded list of past cover players like Fernando Tatis Jr. (2021), Shohei Ohtani (2022), Jazz Chisholm Jr. (2023), and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (2024).
De La Cruz broke into the MLB with the Reds in 2023 and has been a key player for the team ever since. During the 2024 season, he played in 160 games, posting a .259 batting average, 25 home runs, 76 RBIs, 67 stolen bases, and an .809 OPS.
Known for his blazing speed, De La Cruz quickly made an impact upon his debut and went on to lead the league in stolen bases in 2024.
While the Reds have faced challenges as a team, the talent of their young roster raises intriguing questions about their potential growth heading into the 2025 season.
