The Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly reached an agreement with pitcher Adam Kloffenstein on a minor-league contract, according to Robert Murray of FanSided.
“The Blue Jays are signing right-hander Adam Kloffenstein to a minor-league contract, source says. Kloffenstein was drafted by Toronto and eventually traded to the Cardinals, who non-tendered him this offseason. He gets an invite to spring training,” Murray shared on X, formerly Twitter.
Kloffenstein, 24, was originally selected by the Blue Jays in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft before being dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals during the 2023 season. He made his MLB debut in 2024, appearing in just one game for St. Louis.
Despite his limited major league experience, the Blue Jays clearly see potential in the young right-hander, as evidenced by their decision to both draft and now bring him back into the organization. At 24, he could still develop into a contributor for Toronto in the future.
It’s been a rollercoaster offseason for the Blue Jays. While they missed out on stars like Roki Sasaki and Juan Soto, they recently landed Anthony Santander and have reportedly shown interest in free-agent first baseman Pete Alonso.
Toronto aims to contend in the highly competitive American League East during the 2025 season. With all five teams in the division capable of playing at a high level, the challenge of staying in the race will be significant.
Signing Alonso would certainly shake things up, but adding depth remains critical. That’s where moves like bringing back Adam Kloffenstein could quietly pay off down the road.
As MLB free agency winds down, the Blue Jays remain a team worth watching.
