GOOD NEWS: Giants Lands No. 1 Overall Pick For ‘Reasonable’ Return

As the next few months unfold, the biggest questions facing the New York Giants revolve around their quarterback situation. Who will take over under center? And just as importantly, how aggressively should they target a QB in the 2025 NFL Draft?

On January 29, Bleacher Report analyst Drew Gagnon identified teams that might trade up for the No. 1 overall pick—especially with the Tennessee Titans hinting they could be open to offers. Unsurprisingly, the Giants were among them, and Gagnon’s proposed trade for New York was relatively modest compared to others.

“If, following the Daniel Jones era, the Giants decide they need a quarterback immediately and believe it has to be [Cam] Ward or [Shedeur] Sanders, moving from No. 3 to No. 1 could be an option,” Gagnon explained, suggesting the following deal:

  • Giants receive: No. 1 overall pick
  • Titans receive: No. 3 overall pick and a 2025 second-round pick

At first glance, this return might seem surprisingly low. However, Gagnon outlined a scenario where the Titans aren’t interested in Ward or Sanders, preferring an edge rusher like Abdul Carter or a versatile playmaker such as Travis Hunter. If no other teams offer a stronger package, Tennessee might opt to move down just two spots rather than risk falling further.

“This trade makes more sense than any other move-up scenario discussed, as it minimizes risk for the Titans while providing a much-needed solution for a desperate Giants team,” Gagnon argued. “That could help keep the asking price reasonable.”

Even so, this deal would be an ideal outcome for the Giants. Based on the 2025 NFL Draft value chart, the No. 1 pick is worth 3,000 points, while the combined value of the No. 3 and No. 34 selections is just 2,760—making this trade a potential bargain for New York.

Ex-NFL QB Warns Giants Not to Trade Up for a Quarterback Unless They’re All-in on Cam Ward

Discussing the Giants’ potential trade-up with the Titans for either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, NFL insider Dianna Russini and former quarterback-turned-analyst Chase Daniel weighed in on the topic during the “Scoop City” podcast on January 31.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the New York Giants were a team that called the Titans,” Russini speculated. “Why wouldn’t they, if there was a quarterback they wanted to make sure they got?”

However, Daniel quickly offered a strong cautionary take.

NFL rumors: Insiders split on Titans drafting Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders No. 1

“God, [Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll] would go out with a bang, Dianna, because these two quarterbacks you’re talking about wouldn’t have even gone top six in last year’s draft,” he argued.

Daniel further stated that if the Giants were to trade up for a quarterback, Ward is the only one remotely worth such a franchise-altering move. At the same time, he questioned whether team owner John Mara would even allow Schoen to “give up the franchise” for one of these prospects, given the GM’s uncertain job security.

Ultimately, Daniel believes the Giants would have to offer significantly more than just their first- and second-round picks to strike a deal with the Titans.

Giants’ Best Option Could Be to Stay Put at No. 3 Overall

Although Gagnon’s proposed trade package isn’t a steep price, the Giants need as many draft picks as possible to reshape their roster in just one offseason—especially given how competitive the NFC East appears on paper.

With that in mind, if they feel comfortable with either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, their best approach may be to stay at No. 3 overall and hope one of them falls to them.

Of course, this will require GM Joe Schoen to carefully assess the draft landscape as things unfold. But that’s simply part of the process.

The growing consensus around the league aligns with Daniel’s viewpoint—that both quarterbacks come with significant risk. If Schoen shares that concern, even if the Giants believe they can develop one of them, there’s a good chance Tennessee or Cleveland opts for a safer pick like Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter instead.

And if both the Titans and Browns select quarterbacks, the Giants could shift their focus to Hunter while targeting a second-round QB prospect such as Jaxson Dart or Jalen Milroe.
