HUGE BOOST: North Carolina Tar Heels Land Another Blockbuster Deal

One of Bill Belichick’s longtime allies is reuniting with him at North Carolina.

In a recent interview with TMZ, former New England Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins announced that he is joining Belichick’s staff at UNC as a defensive assistant, primarily working with the linebackers.

“I’m stepping into a new role that I believe I’ll excel at—coaching,” Collins said. “I’m blessed for the opportunity. My guy [Belichick], I love that dude, he loves me—he can’t get rid of me. I’m grateful and ready.”

Collins added, “Right now, I’ll be working with the defense, mainly the linebackers. I’m not entirely sure of the specifics yet, but since that’s the position I played, I can contribute the most there. That said, I’ll help wherever they need me—even with the secondary if needed.”

Now 35, Jamie Collins had three separate stints with Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots—first from 2013-16 to start his career, then in 2019, and finally from 2021-22 before retiring. During his time in New England, Collins earned Pro Bowl and Second-Team All-Pro honors. He was also part of the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX-winning team in the 2014 season and led the NFL in forced fumbles in 2015 with five.

Although Collins played his college football at Southern Mississippi, he is now set to follow Belichick to North Carolina. He’s also not the only familiar face Belichick is bringing with him to Chapel Hill.
