TRADE UPDATE: The Rangers Now Confirms Major Target Before Trade Deadline

DailyFaceoff recently released a new trade bait board, and as always, there are intriguing names on the list. With the Rangers looking to bolster their roster for a playoff push, several players will likely draw their interest—one of whom immediately stood out as a New York native. His availability has been debated for years, but the Rangers have long had an eye on him.

That player is Trevor Zegras. Ranked 30th on Frank Seravalli’s new trade board, Zegras has been linked to trade speculation due to both past reports of his frustration in Anaheim and the Ducks’ current situation. This could open the door for teams to make a move for the former 9th overall pick from the 2019 NHL Draft, including the Rangers, who may look to maximize his potential.

One of the NHL’s flashiest players, Zegras is best known for his lacrosse-style moves, but his production has dipped in Anaheim. In 33 games this season, he has scored goals and recorded nine assists for 16 points—following a similar pace to last season, when he had six goals and nine assists in 31 games. However, he previously posted back-to-back 60-point seasons, showing his offensive upside.

Anaheim Ducks v New York Rangers

Zegras carries a $5.75 million cap hit through next season, but his time in Anaheim has been far from ideal. He would fit within New York’s salary structure, offering flexibility as both a center and left-winger. With his value currently lower than in past years, the Rangers could leverage their assets to acquire him at a discount, giving him a much-needed fresh start. This could be the perfect time for Chris Drury to strike a deal.
