The odd man out is, indeed, on his way out.
On Monday night, the Red Wings announced another goaltender is being traded to Anaheim for future considerations. The 30-year-old netminder is in the final year of his contract, which carries a $4.75 million AAV.
Honestly, I expected this move to happen much sooner. The reality is that Husso has been inconsistent and, at times, underwhelming at both the AHL and NHL levels. Add in his injury history, and, well, it was fun while it lasted—let’s just leave it at that.

I like this move for Detroit. They clear about $3.6 million in cap space, and it cost them virtually nothing. With Alex Lyon and Cam Talbot solidifying the NHL goaltending rotation, a fresh start is probably the best thing for Husso.
With the NHL trade deadline approaching, Steve Yzerman now has a little more financial flexibility. The question is: was this trade a precursor to something bigger, or just a coincidence?
