INJURY BLOW: The Rangers Suffer Another Terrible Injury Setback

New York Rangers Highly Experience star is being placed on injured reserve due to an upper-body injury.

Jericho, New York native Adam Fox sustained his injury after a collision with Islanders forward Kyle MacLean. He left the ice holding his shoulder and will now be sidelined for at least seven days, as required by injured reserve rules. While the Rangers secured a 5-1 victory over their rivals, the win came at a significant cost to their blue line.

Fox has spent his entire six-year NHL career with the Rangers. This season, the 27-year-old defenseman has tallied five goals and 43 assists, totaling 48 points in 58 games. He also boasts a Corsi For of 57.7 and a relative Corsi of 14.4.

Over 415 career games, Fox has recorded 58 goals and 298 assists for 356 points. Originally selected by the Calgary Flames in the third round (66th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, he was later traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, who eventually sent him to the Rangers.

A seasoned blueliner, Fox won the Norris Trophy in 2020-21 and has been named an NHL All-Star three times.

What The Adam Fox Injury Means

This is a significant blow for the Rangers, who are just two points behind the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Adding to their concerns, K’Andre Miller was also injured in the same game, though there has been no update on his status yet.

These injuries could impact general manager Chris Drury’s approach to the trade deadline. The Rangers may now need to hold onto Ryan Lindgren for defensive depth, despite previous speculation that he could be moved.

To help fill the gap, New York has called up Matthew Robertson from the AHL. With Fox sidelined, the Rangers must now push forward without one of their key defensemen.
