The Colorado Avalanche announced that they have signed forward Taylor Makar to a one-year, entry-level contract through the 2025-26 season. For the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, Makar will join the Colorado Eagles (AHL) on an Amateur Tryout (ATO).

Makar, 24, had an impressive season with the University of Maine, recording 30 points (18 goals, 12 assists) in 38 games. He tied for the team lead in goals and ranked second in total points, setting career highs in both categories. His six game-winning goals were the most on the team. Makar also posted a six-game point streak (Jan. 18 – Feb. 14), tallying eight points (7 goals, 1 assist).

He recorded five multi-goal games this season, including his first collegiate hat trick on Feb. 28. Additionally, he scored twice in the Hockey East Championship on March 21, helping Maine secure an automatic NCAA Tournament bid.

A Calgary native and younger brother of Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar, Taylor was selected by Colorado in the seventh round (220th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. He began his college career at UMass-Amherst, where he played 85 games over three seasons (2021-24) and recorded 22 points (15 goals, 7 assists). In the 2022-23 season, he led UMass in goals with 10.
