With the NCAA Frozen Four set—featuring Penn State, Boston University, Denver, and Western Michigan—12 other college hockey programs saw their 2025 postseason come to a close. This also creates opportunities for undrafted free agents to sign entry-level contracts with NHL teams.
Looking to strengthen their goaltending depth, the New York Rangers have signed UConn netminder Callum Tung to a three-year entry-level deal.
Tung’s strong performance in the BCHL earned him a fringe starter role at the University of Connecticut, where he made the most of his opportunity. In 16 games, he posted an impressive .933 save percentage while allowing just two goals per game. His record of 10-4-1 helped propel the Huskies into the NCAA tournament on a five-game win streak.
In the opening round, Tung stopped 21 shots in a 4-1 victory over Quinnipiac. He then delivered a stellar performance against Penn State in the second round, making 38 saves and forcing overtime before UConn fell in heartbreaking fashion.

With the Rangers’ goaltending depth beyond Dylan Garand looking uncertain, taking a chance on Tung makes sense. His entry-level contract begins next season, but he will finish this year with the Hartford Wolf Pack on an amateur tryout.
