Matt McMahon and the LSU Tigers men’s basketball team have been on fire as the transfer portal season kicks off. On Wednesday, they secured their third commitment with the addition of former Northeastern guard Rashad King.
King, a seasoned three-year player, made a significant impact during the 2024-2025 season. The junior guard averaged 18.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game for Northeastern before entering the transfer portal. After considering multiple programs, he committed to LSU.
A First-Team All-CAA selection, King also earned three CAA Player of the Week honors last season. He played an average of 36.5 minutes per game, led the Huskies in scoring, and shot 44.9% from the field and 31.9% from beyond the arc. At 6-foot-6 and 204 pounds, King brings notable size for a guard—an area LSU needed to strengthen on the wing. His ability to shoot from range or drive inside makes him a versatile addition. His standout performance came against Hampton, where he scored 32 points on 10-of-15 shooting, along with six rebounds and two assists.
With King’s commitment, LSU has now secured three top-100 transfers per 247 Sports: Dedan Thomas Jr. (8th), Rashad King (79th), and Michael Nwoko (81st). The program has benefited from increased NIL support promised by the administration, and the Tigers currently boast the No. 1 transfer portal class in the country.
As Matt McMahon enters his fourth season, the pressure is on to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in his LSU tenure. With these key additions, it’s shaping up to be a pivotal year for the Tigers.
